Facelifts

Second to breast augmentation, face lifts are probably the procedure most people associate with facial plastic surgery. There are many different types of facelift, including:

• Minimally invasive 'non surgical' type thread lifts
• Short scar techniques
• Full face and neck lifts

In general, the more invasive the technique, the longer the recovery period – but most importantly, these types of surgeries provide longer lasting the results.  Dan is able to provide all types of facial cosmetic procedures and will spend time with you deciding which technique is the most appropriate for you, in terms of recovery period and permanence of result.

Eye plastic surgery – upper

As we age the skin above the eyes can droop, producing a ‘heavy’ feeling which gives an appearance of being permanently aged and tired. Upper lid blepharoplasty is a form of eye surgery that removes excess skin from the upper eye lids, restoring a youthful appearance and removing that tired look.

Anaesthetic : Local
Length of stay : Day case
Length of surgery : 1 hour
Time off work: 5 days
Return to light exercise : 2 weeks

Eye plastic surgery – lower

Lower lid blepharoplasty is a more involved procedure than upper lid surgery, as several factors contribute to the aged lower eye. There can be:

• Excess skin
• Malposition of the fat pockets behind the eyelid
• The orbital septum which holds the lower lid in position may be weakened

However, it’s actually very common for all three factors to be at play.

Anaesthetic : General
Length of stay : Daycase
Length of surgery : 1 hour
Time off work: 5 days
Return to light exercise : 2 weeks

Neck surgery

As we age, the skin around the neck and the thin sheet of muscle immediately underneath the skin can sag, leaving folds of skin which are prominent, especially when leaning forward.

A youthful lower face and neck can be restored with plastic surgery to tighten the skin and muscle, remove any excess fat deposits and divide any bands of tissue. Typically this is carried out as part of a full face lift, although just the neck can be treated with a small incision under the chin and behind the ears.

Anaesthetic : Local or General
Length of stay : Daycase
Length of surgery : 2-3 hours
Time off work: 5 days
Return to light exercise : 2 weeks

Prominent ear surgery

Our ears begin to form from the 4th week of gestation and develop as part of a many-staged intricate folding system. At any point things can go wrong, resulting in an unsatisfactory ear shape or position – but this can usually be corrected easily with surgery.

The most commonly requested surgery of this type is to set back prominent ears which can be done as a child or adult.

Anaesthetic : Local (adult) or General (child)
Length of stay : Daycase
Length of surgery : 1 hour
Time off work: 2-5 days
Return to light exercise : 2 weeks
